"We presented a petition with 1500 signatures to the Montpelier City Council. They referred the issue to a newly forming social equity committee for consideration. Many Council members believe that a smoke free downtown discriminates against socioeconomic groups and people with addictions. Science and history show that restricting locations where tobacco can be used (think airplanes, restaurants, workplaces, stores, bars, schools - all of which used to allow smoking) reduces the number of people who smoke. That saves lives!"
